My name is Pat Convey and I’m a member of the Haiti Twinning Committee here at OLL. The twinning relationship represents a partnership of prayer and support between our parish and Our Lady of the Nativity in Acul du Nord Haiti. It is one of our parish’s oldest social ministries, close to 25 years. As we began 2026, Father Richard met with the Haiti Committee and challenged us to re-imagine how we serve our sister parish—our goals, our structure, and the way we communicate.Namely… Why we serve Haiti as Committee members, and why this cause should command your attention and your action. While I cannot speak for every Committee member, I can share the personal experience that first rooted me in this mission. To explain my “why, I need to go back to a meeting way back in the early 2000s. The meeting was with Monsignor Knauer and Father Richard, on his first tour of duty with us and other parishioners. The purpose of the meeting was to vet opportunities outside of the parish to help other struggling communities. After some discussion, it was decided that the best opportunity was to take advantage of a US based Haiti Twinning Organization that paired Catholic parishes with each other.
